A glimpse into Ann's life story.

Created by sarah 11 years ago
Ann was born in Hayes to Dorothy and Derek Yates on the 8th June 1948. The eldest of three sisters, she went to Mellow Lane School, the first (or second) comprehensive school in the UK, where she was nicknamed "Rowdy Yates" after Clint Eastwood in Rawhide as she was always talking!! Already showing her adventurous side, she went on a Mediterranean cruise at the age of 16. A year later she was let loose on English roads, loving her cars, including an old Hillman Minx named OMO. She enjoyed days of sorting out her stamp collection while listening to her records and worked at Rank Xerox. She became a member of the local youth choir, in Hayes, later the Miscellany Singers, where she met Roger. Ann and Roger married in 1969, moved to Chinnor in 1971 and had two children, Victoria and Sarah. She became heavily involved in Christian Aid, helping organise jumble sales, fetes, and the walks. She was also a dinner lady at Mill Lane Primary School for 25 years. She worked in the library, won many quizzes, and travelled with friends to Russia and Iceland. After overcoming breast cancer for the first time, she travelled to Australia to join Victoria to tour the country, where she was known to dance on tables in the evening! Later she saw the Sistine Chapel, Vatican, with Sarah. This was her third attempt to see it, as the Pope had just died when she visited aged 16 and 56! With Roger she visited much of Europe and Western Canada, before the family went to Norway earlier this year and fulfilled her wish of seeing the Northern Lights. Of course, she was, and did much more than these few words can ever show. She will constantly be in our thoughts, as we love her dearly and will miss her ever so much. xxx
